We’re celebrating Black History Month

01 October 2018

Network Homes is very proud to be celebrating Black History Month and today we kick started a month of activities and events by welcoming Michael De Souza, author of the Rastamouse books and creator of the CBeebies cartoon of the same name.

Michael gave a lunch time talk to our staff and shared his experience of being part of the Windrush Generation, leaving his native Trinidad to join his parents in London in 1960. He spoke about growing up in London during the 60s, the importance of having more diverse heroes in children’s literature, and what inspired him to create the Rastamouse books and TV series.

Later in the month Michael will be reading some of his Rastamouse books to our younger residents and their parents. So keep an eye out on our website, Facebook and Twitter to find out how you can attend and be in with a chance of winning a signed copy of a RastaMouse book!

Other events we have planned throughout the month include panel debates,  a film screening, health awareness talks and a closing carnival!
