Michael Marshall, Research and Intelligence Analyst

What do you do at Network Homes?

I'm a Research and Intelligence Analyst in the Strategy and Research team which is part of the Strategy and Infrastructure Department. I provided support to other teams by conducting research, analysis and producing reports on a range of topics with an overall aim to improve the service we provide to customers.

What do you enjoy most about working at Network Homes?

I enjoy working at Network Homes because they have a social purpose. I also have great colleagues who challenge and develop me.  Originally, I came through a graduate scheme for the non-profit sector – Charityworks – so being in an organisation committed to providing homes for a range of tenures is really important to me.  Network Homes is great because it allows me to do this while using the research skills I developed at university.

What makes Network Homes a great organisation to you?

On a day to day basis it’s the people I work with.  Our team has a great culture and we support each other’s research needs, challenge each other and get along really well.  Throughout the company there are people with varied skill sets, so I feel I’m getting a rounded experience.  But again, the great thing about Network Homes is being able to work in an organisation with a social purpose.  When good news stories are shared across the organisation, it does help me reconnect with what I’m here to do.

How has working at Network Homes helped you develop your career?

I’m able to apply my research skills to a specific area, which has brought to life things I had only previously looked at in textbooks and classrooms.  I’ve been given opportunities to develop new skills, for example through a course I’ll be attending in the autumn on relational databases.  It’s also led me to explore areas I didn’t anticipate.  I used to handle complaints before I got my research role, so I’ve had to learn how to provide great customer service.

What’s the one thing you would like applicants to know about working here?

Network Homes has a variety of opportunities, so you’re likely to find something that suits your skills.  There’s a diverse range of roles from working in the development of new homes, through to community engagement and marketing and communications.  Also, if you’re ambitious about developing new skills, there are opportunities to do so.
