Training courses

There are a variety of training courses available to our residents. These courses are free to those who meet the eligibility criteria.

  • Childcare (Early Years Education – EYE)

    This course focuses on the skills to support children and young people in a school or nursery setting.

    You will need to secure a work placement in order to gain the qualification.

    The course takes place in South Kilburn and takes six to eight weeks. The hours are three days per week from 9am – 5pm. 

    Eligibility

    The programme is free to any Network Homes resident who:

    • Is aged 21 or over
    • Is claiming JSA, ESA
    • Has been living in the UK for at least three years

  • Driving Goods Vehicles (DGV)

    This course offers a qualification at Level 2 and includes work experience. You will be able to apply for jobs as a delivery driver. 

    The course takes place in South Kilburn and takes 14 weeks, plus one day a week work placements. The hours are 9am – 5pm. 

    Eligibility

    The programme is free to any Network Homes resident who:

    • Is aged 21 or over
    • Is claiming JSA, ESA
    • Has been living in the UK for at least three years
    • Has had a UK/EU driving licence for two years and has no more than six points on the licence

  • ESOL English lessons (FREE)

    Network Homes in partnership with ACDA Skills Training are running a free 10 weeks English course, English My Way, for Network Homes residents.

    English My Way is an ideal Basic ESOL course for complete beginners. The course is easy to follow and will only take a few hours a week.

    The skills you learn will help you gain confidence in your day-to-day life.

    The topics covered will also help you meet new people, use local services and do the things you want to do!

    Eligibility

    The programme is free to any Network Homes resident who fits the following criteria:

    • 19 years of age and older

    • Living in the UK for over 12 months

    • Unemployed or underemployed

    • Has very low English language skills.

  • Road passenger Vehicle Driving (RPVD)

    This course offers a qualification at Level 2 and includes work experience. You will be able to apply for jobs as a bus driver. 

    The course takes place in South Kilburn and takes six to eight weeks. The hours are three days per week from 9am – 5pm and the qualification gained is an NVQ Level 2. 

    Eligibility

    The programme is free to any Network Homes resident who:

    • Is aged 21 or over
    • Is claiming JSA, ESA
    • Has been living in the UK for at least three years

    • Willingness to undertake further training
    • Some experience of working with young children.

    An early years day nursery in Royal Lane is looking for an apprentice Nursery Assistant. They are a nursery for children aged from 2 to 5, pre-school children, with an emphasis on high quality care and development. They have a long standing established setting and candidates need to be reliable and committed.

    The candidate must have experience and should already hold a Level 2 Childcare qualification.

    Skills Required:

    • Level 2 Childcare qualification
    • Willingness to undertake further training
    • Some experience of working with young children
    • GCSEs A*- C in English, Maths and ICT desirable.

    An early years day nursery in Station Road is looking for an Apprentice Nursery Officer. The nursery is for babies, toddlers and pre-school children, with an emphasis on high quality traditional care and development.

    The candidate must play a full part in the duties and responsibilities involved in the running of a nursery working with the Management Teams. 

    Skills Required:

    • Willingness to undertake further training
    • Some experience of working with young children
    • GCSEs A*- C in English, Maths and ICT desirable
    • Current First Aid at Work qualification.

  • Apprentice Plumber

    Our repairs and maintenance contractor Wates are offering a job opportunity as an Apprentice Plumber to Network Homes residents.

    As a Plumbing Apprentice you will work alongside an experienced tradesperson to gain experience in maintenance including domestic hot and cold water system installation and maintenance techniques, domestic drainage system installation and maintenance.

    You will attend college one day a week and work towards a Level 2 apprenticeship in Plumbing.

    Skills/Qualifications required: 

    • Genuine interest in learning a trade
    • Desire to work towards achieving a qualification
    • Reliable and punctual
    • Able to follow instructions
    • 3 GCSE’s A – D including Maths and English.

  • Wates Building Futures Programme

    Are you 19 years old or older, unemployed and looking for a career in construction? Apply to take part in our contractor Wates two-week Building Futures programme to gain an insight into the construction industry. 

    Benefits:

    • During the programme you will get the opportunity to learn a variety of practical
      skills through trade taster sessions
    • Visit live construction sites, improve your employability skills and sit your CSCS test
    • At the end of the course you will be presented with a BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Construction.

  • Apprentice Carpenter

    Our repairs and maintenance contractor Wates are offering a job opportunity as an Apprentice Carpenter to Network Homes residents.

    As a Carpentry Apprentice you will work alongside an experienced tradesperson to gain experience in maintenance areas such as door frames, hanging doors, boxing pipes, window frames and floor joists.

    You will attend college one day a week and work towards a Level 2 apprenticeship in Carpentry.

    Skills/Qualifications required:

    • Genuine interest in learning a trade
    • Desire to work towards achieving a qualification
    • Reliable and punctual
    • Able to follow instructions
    • 3 GCSE’s A – D including Maths and English.
