Training courses

There are a variety of training courses available to our residents. These courses are free to those who meet the eligibility criteria. 

We can help residents to access training courses. Please contact our Worksmart team on 0300 373 3000 or email worksmart@networkhomes.org.uk if you are interested in any of the opportunities listed below or if you would like to discuss access to other training courses.

  • Childcare (Early Years Education – EYE)

    This course focuses on the skills to support children and young people in a school or nursery setting.

    You will need to secure a work placement in order to gain the qualification.

    The course takes place in South Kilburn and takes six to eight weeks. The hours are three days per week from 9am – 5pm. 

    Eligibility

    The programme is free to any Network Homes resident who:

    • Is aged 21 or over
    • Is claiming JSA, ESA
    • Has been living in the UK for at least three years

  • Driving Goods Vehicles (DGV)

    This course offers a qualification at Level 2 and includes work experience. You will be able to apply for jobs as a delivery driver. 

    The course takes place in South Kilburn and takes 14 weeks, plus one day a week work placements. The hours are 9am – 5pm. 

    Eligibility

    The programme is free to any Network Homes resident who:

    • Is aged 21 or over
    • Is claiming JSA, ESA
    • Has been living in the UK for at least three years
    • Has had a UK/EU driving licence for two years and has no more than six points on the licence

  • ESOL English lessons (FREE)

    Network Homes in partnership with ACDA Skills Training are running a free 10 weeks English course, English My Way, for Network Homes residents.

    English My Way is an ideal Basic ESOL course for complete beginners. The course is easy to follow and will only take a few hours a week.

    The skills you learn will help you gain confidence in your day-to-day life.

    The topics covered will also help you meet new people, use local services and do the things you want to do!

    Eligibility

    The programme is free to any Network Homes resident who fits the following criteria:

    • 19 years of age and older

    • Living in the UK for over 12 months

    • Unemployed or underemployed

    • Has very low English language skills.

  • Road passenger Vehicle Driving (RPVD)

    This course offers a qualification at Level 2 and includes work experience. You will be able to apply for jobs as a bus driver. 

    The course takes place in South Kilburn and takes six to eight weeks. The hours are three days per week from 9am – 5pm and the qualification gained is an NVQ Level 2. 

    Eligibility

    The programme is free to any Network Homes resident who:

    • Is aged 21 or over
    • Is claiming JSA, ESA
    • Has been living in the UK for at least three years
    • Has had a UK/EU driving licence for two years and has no more than six points on the licence

Training and apprenticeship opportunities

  • The Prince Trust Get Started in Cooking

    Are you 16-25? Interested in cooking? The Prince’s Trust has teamed up with Food Academy to offer a FREE one-week cooking programme for young people aged 16-25.

    Benefits:

    • Gain a Certification in Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene
    • Work as a team to take part in a final group cooking challenge
    • Prepare your own lunches and snacks
    • Receive 3 months’ progression support from the Prince's Trust to help you find work, education or training
    • Travel provided throughout the programme.

  • The Prince Trust Get Started in Media

    Are you 16-25? Want to learn new skills? Join the Get Started with Media programme with The Prince's Trust.

    Meet new people and take part in a group media challenge with NBCUniversal -the people behind Despicable Me. Jurassic Park and Keeping Up with the Kardashians!

    Benefits:

    • You'll develop new skills and staff will help you uncover your next steps
    • Work with industry professionals and explore aspects of photography, social media and design to develop a marketing strategy
    • Learn what goes on behind the scenes, from creating a perfect voiceover script to fundamentals of camera work
    • Find out about opportunities and career routes in the media industry
    • Lunch will be provided, with travel expenses paid on the programme.

    You'll also receive up to three months’ progression support with Prince's Trust to help you find further work or training.

  • The Prince Trust Get into Retail with Gap

    Are you 16-25, not currently in education, training or employment? Looking for work in Retail?

    The Prince’s Trust and GAP are running a two-week training and work experience programme for young people interested in a career in retail.

    Not only will it boost your confidence and employability, but you’ll also have the chance to benefit from the support of one our mentors to help you uncover your next steps.

    Benefits: 

    • All training provided
    • Two weeks work experience in a GAP store
    • Travel expenses paid on programme
    • Doesn't affect your benefits
    • Boost employability skills
    • Up to six months progression support
    • Opportunity of employment at GAP on successful completion of the programme.
