Work starts to transform former Neasden print works into new affordable homes

Street view of the former Neasden print worksNetwork Homes has started work to transform a former Neasden print works into more than 70 affordable homes for the local area.

Using innovative construction methods, involving the manufacturing of a cross-laminated timber (CLT) structure, the majority of the building work will take place in a factory before being delivered to site and then craned into position. This off-site construction method will minimise the environmental impact and disturbance to local residents and will reduce build time and costs.

The new Press House development, which is due to be completed in early 2018, will include 74 homes with 27 for affordable rent and 47 for shared ownership.

Replacing a former 1960s building no longer fit for purpose, the new development will greatly improve the surrounding public area, creating a more attractive and safer environment for local residents and pedestrians walking towards the nearby recreation grounds and Brent reservoir.

The 74 homes will consist of one, two and three bedroom apartments and townhouses. Apartments will be distributed between two blocks separated by a generous communal landscaped garden for residents. The townhouses will be arranged so they front onto the streets, providing a much needed lift to the local area.

Vicky Savage, Executive Director for Development at Network Homes, said: “We are really pleased to be working with our contractor Henry Construction on this important local redevelopment project. The new homes will really lift the area and leave a long term legacy. We are proud to be delivering more than 70 beautiful affordable homes for local people.”

Gerry Eastwood, Director at Henry Construction, said: “This is an important project and a very important client. We are delighted that Network Homes has appointed us as the contractor for this project. We see this as a significant opportunity to work with one of the major London Housing Associations, and we will do all we can to ensure that this project is delivered on time, within budget and to a high standard.”
