Network Homes gives something local with IT drop-in sessions and computer equipment for older residents

14 October 2022

We’ve been giving back to residents at our older persons sheltered schemes across London and Hertfordshire with special IT drop-in sessions along with donated computer equipment.

Colleagues from our Governance, Technology and Transformation team spent a day in September meeting residents and offering them IT advice and support along with a chat over a cup of tea. There were lots of enjoyable conversation alongside tips on emailing, online shopping, and offering support in signing up the My Network Homes customer portal. This portal is currently setup for any tenant who rents from us, and we’ve had some fantastic feedback around how it helps our residents with simple transactions (like checking their balance or paying their rent) without the wait-times or hourly restrictions from calling in.  In addition to the drop-in, the team also installed dedicated computer kiosks at 34 sheltered schemes which will offer residents online access.

The IT project was all part of our Giving Something Local initiative which sees us deliver a variety of activities to residents and communities ranging from gardening to canal side clean-ups. Every employee of Network Homes gets up to two volunteer days per year in order to give back something back to residents and communities.

Our colleagues had a fantastic time meeting residents, helping them with their online queries and showing them how they can set up an online account with Network Homes. Through the ‘My Network Homes’ portal, tenants can check their balance and recent transactions, pay their rent, update their contact details and so much more. We recognise that moving our support and services online can reduce costs for our tenants also, as they will be able to complete more activities for themselves through the portal at a time that suits them. It was great to see the enthusiasm from our residents to access the portal on the day and hope that more of our residents also start to use it to start accessing these benefits too”

Tabitha Kassem, Executive Director of Governance, Technology and Transformation at Network Homes

Tabitha adds: "“It’s also been great to work with our brilliant scheme managers so that we can improve IT facilities at our older persons schemes. We’re passionate as an organisation in wanting to give something back to our local communities, supporting our residents to become digitally enabled, and initiatives like these help us fulfil our strategic objectives of strengthening residents trust in us and delivering reliable services for residents.”
