Celebrate Black History all year round with the Black History Month 365 fund

08 December 2022

We’ve joined A2Dominion Housing Group, Catalyst (Peabody) Housing, Metropolitan Thames Valley and Sovereign Housing to be part of the Black History Month (BHM) 365 fund set up to support projects in our communities that celebrate black history. Residents, local voluntary and community organisations can apply for a grant to deliver their projects which supports our commitment to enable the community to celebrate and educate throughout the year.

In October each year, the UK recognises the achievements and contributions of people of black heritage around the world through Black History Month. The fund, which was launched in November 2021, aims to extend UK Black History Month to a year-round celebration.

It offers grants of up to £500 to support residents, community groups, schools and local organisations to deliver projects with a focus on:

  • bringing communities together to mark and celebrate our shared history
  • promoting the awareness and knowledge of black history
  • celebrating the achievements and contributions from individuals of African and Caribbean heritage
  • engage our communities and residents.

Since its launch, the BHM 365 fund has supported over 500 groups and organisations and awarded £9,000 to 15 small organisations in the first three rounds of funding.

Some of the projects and organisations the fund has supported

  • Close up of hands on drumsA lunch club providing free healthy Caribbean food and information about diet and nutrition.
  • African drumming workshop to a cross-generation photographic project centering around the black community in Queen’s Park past and present.
  • Supporting a local school in obtain more diverse books.
